Import External Data into an External Business Object

Use the External Data Import Wizard to import data from an External Database into an External Business Object.

Note: Create an External Business Object that imports data before importing external data.

To import external data into an External Business Object:

  1. In the CSM Administrator window, click the Database category, and then click the Import external data task.

    The External Data Import Wizard opens.

  2. Click Next.

    The Select Business Object page opens.

    Note: Only Business Objects that are eligible to import external data are listed (for example, either External Business Objects or existing CSM Business Objects with mapped data).

  3. Select the Business Object mapped to the external data.
  4. Click Next.

    The Existing Records page opens.

  5. Select whether to delete or update existing records within CSM:
  6. (Optional) Select the Only import records changed since check box to shorten the import time based on a selected date. Click the Date Selector button Date Picker Button to select a date.

    Tip: Typically, imports are quick enough that this option is not necessary, especially if imports are scheduled for non-peak work hours.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Select the data to import:
  9. Click Finish.

    The data is imported, and then displayed in the CMDB (CSM>Tools>CMDB). If the CSM Scheduler is used, the import starts at the scheduled time.
